A VISITOR FROM THE PAST I HAD A DREAM THE OTHER NIGHT,I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND A FIGURE WALKING THROUGH THE MIST, WITH A FLINTLOCK IN HIS HAND. HIS CLOTHES WERE TORN AND DIRTY, AS HE STOOD BY THE BED.HE TOOK OFF HIS THREE CORNERED HAT, AND SPEAKING LOUD,HE SAID: WE FOUGHT A REVOLUTION, TO SECURE OUR LIBERTY. WE WROTE THE CONSTITUTION, AS A SHEILD FROM TYRANNY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS,THIS LEGACY WE GAVE: IN THIS LAND OF THE FREE, AND HOME OF THE BRAVE. A FREEDOM WE SECURED FOR YOU, WE HOPED YOU'D ALWAYS KEEP. BUT TYRANTS LABORED ENDLESSLY,WHILE YOUR PARENTS WERE ASLEEP. YOUR FREEDOM GONE AND YOUR COURAGE LOST, YOU ARE JUST A SLAVE, IN THIS LAND OF THE FREE, AND HOME OF THE BRAVE. YOU BUY PERMITS TO TRAVEL, AND PERMITS TO OWN A GUN. PERMITS TO START A BUSINESS, OR TO BUILD A PLACE FOR ONE. ON THE LAND YOU BELEIVE IS YOUR OWN, AN YOU PAY A YEARLY RENT. YOU HAVE NO CHOICE IN CHOOSING, HOW THE MONEY IS SPENT. YOUR CHILDREN MUST ATTEND A SCHOOL, THAT DOESN'T EDUCATE. YOUR MORAL VALUES CAN'T BE TAUGHT ACCORDING TO THE STATE. YOU READ ABOUT THE CURRENT NEWS, IN A REGULATED PRESS. YOU PAY A TAX YOU DO NOT OWE, TO APPEASE THE IRS. YOUR MONEY IS NO LONGER MADE, OF SILVER OR GOLD YOU TRADE YOUR WEALTH FOR PAPER, AS YOUR LIFE CAN BE CONTROLLED. YOU PAY FOR CRIMES THAT MAKE OUR NATION, TURN FROM GOD IN SHAME. YOU'VE TAKEN SATAN'S NUMBER, AS YOU TRADED IN YOUR NAME. YOU'VE GIVEN GOVERMENT CONTROLS TO THOSE WHO WOULD DO YOU HARM. PADLOCK YOUR FAMILY BUSINESS, AND STEAL THE FAMILY FARM. KEEP OUR COUNTRY DEEP IN DEBT, AND PUT THOSE WHO DISSENT IN JAIL. HARASS YOUR FELLOW COUNTRYMEN, WHILE CORRUPTED COURTS PREVAIL. YOUR PUBLIC SERVANTS DON'T UPHOLD, THE SOLEMN OATH THEY'VE SWORN. THEY INTERFERE IN YOUR CHOICE, WHETHER CHILDREN WILL BE BORN. YOUR LEADERS, THEY SHIP ARTILLERY, AND GUNS TO FOREIGN SHORES. AND SENT YOUR SONS TO SLAUGHTER, FIGHTTING OTHER PEOPLE'S WARS CAN YOU REGAIN THE FREEDOM, FOR WHICH WE FOUGHT AND DIED OR DON'T YOU HAVE THE COURAGE, OR THE FAITH TO STAND WITH PRIDE? ARE THERE NO MORE VALUES, FOR WHICH YOU'LL FIGHT TO SAVE? OR DO YOU WISH YOUR CHILDREN, TO LIVE IN FEAR AND BE A SLAVE? SONS OF THE REPUBLIC, ARISE AND TAKE A STAND. DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION,THE SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND. PRESERVE OUR GREAT REPUBLIC, AND EACH GOD-GIVEN RIGHT. AND PRAY TO GOD TO KEEP THE TORCH,OF FREEDOM BURNING BRIGHT. AND AS I WOKE HE VANISHED, INTO THE MIST FROM WHENCE HE CAME. HIS WORDS ARE TRUE, WE ARE NOT FREE;WE HAVE OURSELVES TO BLAME. FOR EVEN NOW AS TYRANTS TRAMPLE,EACH GOD GIVEN RIGHT; WE ONLY WATCH AND TREMBLE,TOO AFRAID TO STAND AND FIGHT. IF HE STOOD BY YOUR BEDSIDE,IN A DREAM WHILE YOU WERE ASLEEP... AND WONDERED AT WHAT REMAINS, OF THE RIGHTS HE FOUGHT TO KEEP. WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ANSWER, AS HE CALLED OUT FROM THE GRAVE: "IS THIS THE LAND OF THE FREE, AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE?" My dad died February 4, 2000. I started growing up the day I saw the expression on his face when the news about My Lai broke on the CBS Evening News. He was a radio interception operator during the Korean Era and served at Adak, Alaska. He always laughed about how they kept beer cold in the sink, but there was always pain beneath that story. He wouldn't tell us a lot more about what went on. My dad taught me to take pride in my country and especially to honor the people who served because their sacrifice of time, youth, health and life helped to keep all of us free and enjoying the lives with which we are blessed. I shall never forget his lessons. by Julia K. Pearson from Kentucky, E-mail address: jkp3cats@aol.com |

TILL DEATH DO US PART TO A FRIEND WHO'S GONE THAT I MISS SO TRUE, IF YOU HAD KNOWN HIM YOU WOULD MISS HIM TOO, HIS BIG BRIGHT EYES THAT GLOW WITH LOVE, I WOULD HAVE GIVE ANYTHING FOR JUST ONE LAST HUG, HIS HAIR SO BLACK LIKE THE NIGHT'S SKY I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO SAY GOOD BYE, WITH HIS FACE SO ROUND AND A HEART SHAPED BROW, WHY WAS HE CHOSEN PLEASE TELL ME NOW. THERE'S SO MANY THINGS I DON'T UNDERSTAND LIKE HOW COULD HE BE TAKEN FROM THIS LAND, IT WASN'T HIS TIME HE SHOULDN'T BE GONE CAUSE THE WAY THINGS HAPPENED THEY WERE OH SO WRONG, THEY TOOK HIM AWAY NEVER TO COME BACK, THE NEXT TIME I SAW HIM HE WAS ON HIS BACK, HIS BRIGHT EYES WERE SHUT NEVER TO OPEN AGAIN, I KNEW THEN IT WAS CLOSE TO THE END, I STOOD BY HIS SIDE AND HELD HIS HAND, I SPOKE SOFT WORDS BUT HE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND. THE PAIN IN MY HEART WAS MORE THAN I COULD STAND AND THATS WHEN I FELT A SQUEEZE ON MY HAND, AGAIN I THOUGHT ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO SAY GOOD BYE AND THAT'S WHEN I SAW THE TEAR IN HIS EYE, AND I KNEW THEN, THAT TEAR WAS OUR GOOD BYE. TO MY DEAREST FRIEND BILLY, AND YOU TOO FANCY. I MISS YOU BILLY BY SHERRY L. RICE by SHERRY from UP STATE NEW YORK, E-mail address: RIGOLETTO-ONE@WEBTV.NET |

On Thursday, May 25, 2000 at 16:19:47 a tribute was placed here to Honor John Bert Lees USMC Veteran of the Persian Gulf War
Unlike many others, my brother made it back from the war but will always be affected by it physically. Since he was a little boy, he wanted to be a Marine. He used to dress up in my father's dress blues. As a young adult, he finally made it and our father's proudest day was when JB graduated boot camp at Camp Pendleton. Our father taught us that America, with all her faults, was still the greatest country in the world and that it is a privelege to defend her and I still believe that. I am proud to be the daughter and sister of Marine Corps veterans... by Francine Lees Solberg from Portland, Oregon, E-mail address: dfsolberg@yahoo.com |

On Thursday, May 25, 2000 at 16:09:25 a tribute was placed here to Honor John Albert Lees USMC Veteran of the Korean War
Dearest Daddy-- Although I am far away from home and you are no longer with me I miss you so much. I never get through a day without missing you so much...until you were gone, I never realized what a big influence you had on my life. Whenever I see an American Flag...attend a parade and a Marine color guard goes by...hear "The Halls of Montezuma"...someone whistles in a crowd the same way you used to whistle for us...the tears start to fall. Life will never be the same...and wouldn't be the same without your presence in it. Lexi and Dakota's life would be far richer had you been here to share it. We all miss you so much! I love you Daddy-- Fran by Francine Lees Solberg from Portland, Oregon, E-mail address: dfsolberg@yahoo.com |

On Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at 15:02:29 a tribute was placed here to Honor CPL VERRELL DANIEL STILES
IN MEMORY OF CPL VERRELL DANIEL STILES AND HARRY E. & ELLAMAE STILES A FATHER AND MOTHERS LOVE AMERICA, WE RAISED A SON FOR YOU, HE WAS A UNITED STATES MARINE. ON THE FIELD OF BATTLE, HE LOST HIS LIFE WHICH SHATTERED ALL OUR DREAMS. WE REMEMBER OUR SON WHEN JUST A LAD, ON HIS SHOULDER WAS A BROOM, SAYING,"MOM AND DAD, I'M GONNA BE A MARINE." AS HE MARCHED FROM ROOM TO ROOM. THE DAY HE LEFT, I'LL NEVER FORGET AS HE BADE US BOTH GOOD-BYE. TO BOOT CAMP TRAINING AT PARRIS ISLAND. AS TEARS FELL FROM OUR EYES.WE MISSED HIM SO, WHEN HE LEFT HOME. BUT HE WROTE US EVERYDAY. SAYING MARINE CORPS TRAINING WAS REALLY TOUGH SO FOR HIM WE'D ALWAYS PRAY. TIME WENT QUICKLY AND HE WAS HOME ON LEAVE. THE DAYS THEY PASSED SO FAST. LITTLE WE KNEW AS WE HUGGED HIM TIGHT. THIS WAS TO BE OUR LAST. WE COULDN'T BELIEVE THE WAY HE LOOKED. SO HEALTY, STRAIGHT, AND LEAN. WE REALIZED OUR SON WAS NOW A MAN. A UNITED STATES MARINE. IN A LITTLE TIME HE WENT OVERSEAS, TO VIETNAM HE WOULD GO. IT WAS THERE OUR SON LOST HIS LIFE. HOW SOON WE WERE TO KNOW. AS WE OPENED UP THE TELEGRAM, TEARS BURST FROM OUR EYES. GOD, WHY DID THIS HAPPEN TO OUR SON? FOR WHAT REASON DID HE DIE? IT WAS THEN WE BEGAN TO REALIZE WHILE FOND MEMORIES SLIPPED AWAY. OUR SON HAD DIED FOR THE CAUSE OF PEACE AND WE BOTH KNELT DOWN TO PRAY. WE ASKED GOD IF HE'D BLESS OUR SON. TO GRANT HIM PEACE, WITH LOVE. TO LIGHTEN THE BURDEN WE NOW FEEL TIL WE JOIN OUR SON ABOVE. by: PAUL D. HAGGERTY by Vanessa Stiles Payne from Knoxville, TN, E-mail address: lpayne5@bellsouth.net |

He was an immigrant who fought for his new home and died. His family returned to their mother's homeland - Australia. There is no one here to keep their memory alive.
