My father served in WWII and he has always been the most patriotic person I know. I don't think a day goes by that he doesn't thank God for coming home to his family. He servied aboard the USS New Jersey. One of my brothers served in Vietnam. At the time I was 13 years old and didn't realize the impact of this conflict. We were very lucky that he came home and are very thankful he did. My other brother and husband served in the Navy and Air Force. They served during the time of the Vietnam conflict, but did not see action. I am very thankful for them and am so thankful that God saw them safely through that time in history. I want to thank all of the Veterans and the servicemen and women currently serving. by Ellen Hearn from Delmar, DE, E-mail address: ellemae76@aol.com |

Uncle Bud, Just a note to say how deeply missed you are. Thank you for the service you gave for our country and for the good of your family. I still remember the stories that you told me about the war, and they bring pleasant memories back of times spent with you. I remember like it was yesterday, standing at your funeral service. As I listened to the speaking, it hurt terribly but it didn't seem like you were really gone. This feeling went on until I heard the trumpet start playing TAPS for the final time. All at once, it was as if you were really no longer there. The soldier had marched off for the final time. It just seemed as if your work here with us was over, and the horn had called you home. I still miss you greatly, but its okay because I know we'll meet again. Love always, Bud by Bud Heckert from Van Wert, Oh, E-mail address: bud_heckert@yahoo.com |

On Sunday, August 27, 2000 at 18:50:07 a tribute was placed here to Honor LCPL Benjamin H. Gearheart
Ben was born and raised in Galloway, Ohio and moved to Franklin Tennessee in 1992. He was a 22 year old Marine who died on 8/27/97. His LAV went down a 1200 ft. embankment during a military training maneuver on base at Camp Pendleton, California Most Americans are not aware that up to 1800 of our GI s die every year in training accidents. I sadly was one of the uninformed. He had been in for three years. I worried myself sick while he was in Kuwait and was so relieved when he returned to American soil. Three Marines at my door changed that. Ben was a third generation Marine and was so proud to be serving our country. So dear to my heart was the sound of his laughter. No matter how bad things were he somehow managed to put a smile on your face. If you were bored, he became your entertainment. He lived his life with such passion, and captured every detail as if through the eyes of a child. I miss him so much I just can't stand it. On Tuesday, July 4, 2000 at 17:08:26 a tribute was placed here to Honor Our founding forefathers and those surviving veterans of war
I appreciate the many sacrifices made of all ... but most of all - those made to extablish those freedoms to us ... under God. Thank you - to every veteran of war. Thank you so much. May God bless you and help you to forgive all that you may need to. Jesus Christ paid a debt - he did not owe. He died a cruel death unjustly on a rugged cross with no dignity. He is the King of Kings. He died so that we might have life and life more abundant... freedom and to know forgiveness of sins. Invite him into your heart today if you have not done so - let him do the work he paid - his life for. Do not delay. He paid the price for you that you might gain heaven and not hell... It is that simple. Invite him into your heart today. He will forgive all your sins and help you to forgive all those that have sinned against you ...with his forgiveness. It will happen and you will feel ... his peace, love, joy, and rest in your soul. In gratitude and sincerity this 4th day of July 2000 Again thank you so much! You are remembered and well thought of... every surviving veteran of war or family member of veteran of war. God bless You. by Jeanine Carmichael from Arlington, Texas, E-mail address: Neengie1@aol.com |

On Monday, June 19, 2000 at 01:11:16 a tribute was placed here to Honor Kelly U. S. Army Scout Dog, #14X7
Kelly was the German Shepherd that I was assigned to work with for the 18 months that I was in Vietnam, she was killed in action saving my life, she was my best friend and I still miss her terribly. I also post this in memory of the more tan 3500 military dogs that were simply abandoned and left behind by our government. They need to be remembered.

On Thursday, June 15, 2000 at 05:31:53 a tribute was placed here to Honor Kesley H. Green
It has been 55 years since we were last together at Pearl Harbor. You were my best friend, during my previous three years of the war. But that day we said our aloha's before we separated. We were going to invade Japan. It was said that many hundreds of thousands of us would not return. So we were elated when the news that a "new" bomb had been dropped and that we would not invade after all. We separated and went on different ships going to Yokosuka. Our job was to set up a communications center for the occupation forces. Halfway from Oahu to Japan our ships encountered a ferocious typhoon. I was on a troop ship and you were on a LST. We encountered 100 foot "seas". My ship listed 50º at times and some half inch thick decking cracked and split. Your ship capcized! I say again, goodbye my friend. I shall see you soon. by Bob See from Oklahoma, E-mail address: n5pc@poncacity.net |

On Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at 21:48:44 a tribute was placed here to Honor CAPTAIN RICHARD ALLEN KERR
For your Birthday, June 7, 1928 As time unfolds another year, Memories keep you ever near, Silent thoughts of times together Hold memories that will last forever I think of you today with love As I have often done I feel again the bitter blow That should never have come, My heart still aches with sadness And secret tears still flow What it meant to lose you Dick No one will ever know. They say that time heals everything But we know that isn't so Because it hurts as much today As it did 32 years ago. I only have your memory To remember my whole life through, But the sweetness will linger forever As I treasure the image of you. Rest easy my Darling, you will never be forgotten, With All My Love Lil Semper Fi by Lil Abrams from Toronto, Canada, E-mail address: lilystoy@idirect.com |

Col. George Casey, my Commander, Chief of Staff, and Friend who lost his life in Vietnam. Six months after I left Vietnam, Col. Casey's helicopter was shot down.
