Dedicated to all Marine Corps RIOs - Radar Intercept Officers who flew the back seat of the F4 Phantom II 1962-1992 Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds-and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. "Yesterday" I love you even more today than I did Yesterday. A Yesterday when you were here and smiling. Only Yesterday, I didn't know I wouldn't see that smile one last time. Yesterday you would call with that "howdy" and "hi"... A Yesterday with a kiss and a hug.. A Yesterday which is now gone but not forgotten. Yesterday was surely a time of happiness and comfort. A Yesterday with a Yesterday's dream... A yesterday when two kindred souls were together. That Yesterday has passed and today you are gone, and all of what is left of that "Yesterday" are loving memories.. Memories deep within a heart which will always ache for that "Yesterday." Will miss you forever sweetie!! "There's a light at the end of the Tunnel and now you are MY light." My husband was very young when he was sent to Viet Nam. He went to serve his country. It wasn't a war he wanted to fight in but a duty he didn't shrink from. He served his 13 months in Viet Nam and returned to the states to only have someone spit on him at the airport. He served his county with pride though. He doesn't talk about Viet Nam much but I have seen his tears at the Viet Nam Wall Memorial. I know he still has pain that he holds in. He is someone I admire very much. by Linda Scherer from Newark, Ohio, E-mail address: lindai@voyager.net |

Mom, you went home to be with the Lord and Dad a year ago today. We miss you both so much and think of you everyday. We often forget what the price of freedom really is. We get busy with our life, job, family and day to day activities but you never let that get in the way of your love for Dad and your sons. Though you suffered great sorrow in his loss you stayed true to your one love all those years. I know that Dad was in full Navy dress waiting at the Gate for you when you went home last year and now once again you are together. This is in memory to you Mom and all the other women who lost loved ones while serving their country. Let us never forget the women who have lost their husbands while serving this great country. All Gave Some, Some Gave All. 34 years ago today, you gave all in the service of your country, on the first night of Tet at Chui Lai RVN, January 31, 1968. Having you in my life made me happy beyond belief, losing you brought me insurmountable grief. A sadness still comes over me, And silent tears often flow. Memory keeps you ever near to me, Though you died 34 years ago. Always loved and never forgotten, Rest easy My Marine. Till we meet again.
