James served with the 101st Airborne Division LCo 75 Infantry and became MIA April 24, 1971. I recently discovered what a true war hero he was during the last year of my quest for answers. He played football and was on the All Star Team, weighing only 140 lbs. He was also a basketball All State and before joing the Navy he was being recruited by the Chicgo Whilte Sox to play Baseball. Kenneth and I grew up together and were good friends. After High School he joined the Navy,something he had wanted all his life. Ken's dad served in the Navy in WW2 and Ken wanted to be a sailor also. I am glad he got to live his dream, not many people get to. A few weeks ago I found out Ken was dead. I don't know the details. May 26th 2002 made 48 years, since the USS Bennington had an explosion which claimed the lives of many of our young Navy Men. Also there were many injured. I would like to let all who read this know, many a hero was made that day.. They helped their fellow shipmates, beyond and above the call, without hesitation. I was one of the Corpsman brought in from the Chelsea Naval hospital, so I knew first hand of the bravery that took place that day. They can be proud to call themselves Bennington shipmates.
