My father died on March 23, 2003. He served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps. He was always proud of the flag and honored it loyally. I miss him tremendously. His sense of humor was loved by all and I miss the way he patted me on the back when he hugged me. He died three months and 2 days before his first grandson was born. William looks so much like him and I am doing my best to raise him to know the grandfather he will never truly know. Daddy, I miss you and will love you forever. It was not until my father passed away and we were at his memorial service that we children learned our father had been wounded three times while in World War II. He never spoke of his service years. Without his courage, strength, and clean loyalty to the family, I would not have made the strong single parent and mother of three that I am. I believe it was his parental upbringing, christian faith and the United States Navy that made this all possible.

On Thursday, May 1, 2003 President Bush said "major combat operations in Iraq have ended."

On the one year anniversary of that declaration

we HONOR the
600+ Coalition Forces Killed
and
Over 3500 Wounded
in Iraq during the year.

We thank all those who served in the armed conflict and those who continue to be engaged in the dangerous actions of securing and reconstructing Iraq.

To those injured in the fight to free the people of Iraq, our wishes for a swift recovery. May your injuries not be obstacles in leading a full, productive life. May God bless you and your loved ones with strength to face each day.

We pay special tribute to Soldiers, Sailors, Aviators, and Marines who paid the ultimate price. Our sympathies to their families and friends, for you too have paid a price.
