My grandpa served in the U.S Army during WWII. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal; Purple Heart; Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He was in the 823rd tank destroyer battalion "C" co. and was in Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes, Nortern France and Central Europe. It was not until my father passed away and we were at his memorial service that we children learned our father had been wounded three times while in World War II. He never spoke of his service years. My grandmother also kept newspaper articles he had sent to her of where he was stationed and he wrote notes on the newspapers as well. No one knows why he chose to never speak of this time period in his life. I never knew my uncle Joe. He served in the Army 22nd Infantry regiment, 4th Infantry Division, during WWII. He died 6 months after joining. He's buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium. My grandfather, William Braden served in the Army Air Forces in WWII in the 386th Bomb Group, 555th Bomb Squad. I lost my grandfather when I was 10 (1976) but I'll never forget either man. To all the men and women who have ever served or will ever serve this country my thoughts and prayers are with you! On Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 18:22:58 a tribute was placed here to Honor my Dad David Williamson
he served in WWII.he served in the national guard. he had four children who served in the army and the airforce. he had two grandchildren who served in the army. he will have one more to join this year. he died December 2003. he was a good husband,father veteran, You are missed. by Paula Jones from Texas E-mail address: dpalj@hotmail.com |

On Thursday, May 1, 2003 President Bush said "major combat operations in Iraq have ended." On the one year anniversary of that declaration we HONOR the 600+ Coalition Forces Killed and Over 3500 Wounded in Iraq during the year.
We thank all those who served in the armed conflict and those who continue to be engaged in the dangerous actions of securing and reconstructing Iraq. To those injured in the fight to free the people of Iraq, our wishes for a swift recovery. May your injuries not be obstacles in leading a full, productive life. May God bless you and your loved ones with strength to face each day. We pay special tribute to Soldiers, Sailors, Aviators, and Marines who paid the ultimate price.
